Band recording
Play together on our live floor while drums sit in the glass booth — engineer on a 32-input console, room for amps and sensible monitoring.

Bands want the feel of rehearsal captured without bass leaking into every mic. At Milepostvivo’s Amsterdam studio we pair a 46 m² live floor with 2 iso booths so you can play together while we keep bleed manageable. Lars Bakker runs the desk for gain, headphone mixes and take management.
Whether you aim to track an EP in two days, lock drums and bass for later overdubs, or cut a live-feeling single, we plan layout, mic choices and breaks upfront so booked hours go to music, not hunting cables. After the session you get stemmed files for your DAW or for mixing in-house.
Process
Pre-production chat
Send setlist, tempos and desired layout. We block load-in time per band load-in and setup and confirm pricing via contact.
Load-in and line check
Gear enters through the rear entrance by appointment. Mics, DIs, headphone mixes and click are tested before the first keeper take.
Tracking
Full-band passes or focused overdubs per instrument. We mark keeper takes and notes for later editing.
Export
Stemmed WAV per channel, session backup and optional rough mix. Files stay available for download for 24 months.
Room layout and setup
The live floor fits a drum kit in the glass booth, bass amp, guitar amps on iso platforms, keys and up to 6 musicians playing together. Treatment handles rock and indie levels without sounding dead. Vocalists can overdub in a booth while the rest stay on the floor.
We sketch layout before you arrive from your rider: bass amp position, lead guitar, dual-amp setups. On arrival you only fine-tune. Bikes and small bags use Tram 1 and 7: get off at Overtoom (towards the city centre), then walk about six minutes via Helmersstraat. Metro 51 or 53: De Vlugtlaan stop, then tram 1 towards Leidseplein. On-street bicycle parking; load gear through the rear roll-up entrance by appointment.; heavy cases go through the rear roll-up door to keep the street clear.
Which bands fit this room
Rock, indie, funk, jazz combos, punk and electronic acts with live drums: if you are used to playing together, the floor works in your favour. Solo artists with a touring band often book a day for drums and bass, then add vocals in the vocal booth later. Cover bands needing venue demos leave with a rough mix for promo.
We are not a concert hall — extreme volume or very large line-ups do not fit. We can capture extra DI signals for reamping during mixing if amp choices change later.
Hourly rate versus day rate
Short sessions or overdubs after live takes bill hourly at €129 including 21% VAT, with engineer and basic backup. A full ten-hour day is €899 — better value when you want several songs tracked live with setup included.
| Format | Includes | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Hour | Engineer, floor, booth, backup | €129 |
| Day (10 h) | Same facilities, longer block | €899 |
Time beyond the day block bills in half-hour steps at the hourly rate. Booking needs a 30% deposit; free cancellation until 7 days ahead per terms and conditions.
What to bring
Instruments, strings, sticks, picks, tuners and pedalboards. Bring guitars and basses you trust; we supply DIs and mics from our lockers (24 slots), not every amp flavour. Drum kits can be rented through our network — share sizes and tuning wishes at intake.
Send a stage plot and input list beforehand, even rough. Our guide band load-in and setup covers parking, stairs, power and when load-in starts relative to Mon–Fri 10–22, Sat 10–18. At least one member must be 16 or older; younger players need a parent or guardian on site.
Tracking workflow
We start with a reference take to lock levels and headphone balances. Play with or without click; we record both if editing needs it. Between takes we mark comps: best verse from take 3, chorus from take 5 — you do not need one flawless run.
Want old-school live bleed? We leave space between sources. Prefer tight control? We isolate amps and use the booth more aggressively. Talkback and sight lines keep everyone informed; nobody stands idle wondering why the red light is on.
Monitoring and comfort
Each player gets a headphone mix with click, backing and the channels they need. Long cables let bass and guitar move. Breaks are scheduled — tired ears cost more takes than a fifteen-minute pause.
Coffee, water and a small lounge beside the floor give you distance from amp heat. No smoking indoors; cafés on Overtoom are nearby. On long days we align lunch so the day rate stays productive.
Delivery after the session
Default export: 24-bit WAV per mic and DI, aligned to session start. You get a rough mix for quick feedback and folder naming that imports cleanly into Logic, Pro Tools, Reaper or Ableton. For mixing at Milepostvivo, we prep the project for the mix engineer with notes on desired vibe.
Backups live on local servers and stay online 24 months. Download inside that window; later recovery is on request for a storage fee. Mastering is separate — rough mixes are not streaming masters.
Not included by default
Mix, mastering, heavy editing, vocal tuning, vintage amp rental beyond our list, extra technicians and catering sit outside hourly and day rates. Damage from miswired personal gear stays with the owner; we help with safe routing.
Outside producers may attend if agreed upfront; guests must respect silence during takes. Room treatment targets band levels; we watch peaks and use isolation when needed. More policy in disclaimer and FAQ.

Frequently asked questions
Do six people plus drums fit?
Yes — up to 6 players at once is normal. More bodies on the floor makes monitoring harder; discuss via contact first.
Can we bring our own drum kit?
Yes. Share dimensions for booth and load-in. Without a kit we help arrange rental; allow extra setup time.
How early can we load in?
Load-in usually starts thirty to sixty minutes before tracking, depending on complexity. See band load-in and setup and your confirmation email.
Is parking available?
Free parking is scarce in Oud-West; many bands use a shared van via the rear entrance. Public transport: Tram 1 and 7: get off at Overtoom (towards the city centre), then walk about six minutes via Helmersstraat. Metro 51 or 53: De Vlugtlaan stop, then tram 1 towards Leidseplein. On-street bicycle parking; load gear through the rear roll-up entrance by appointment..
Can we mix the next day?
Book mixing separately or reserve studio hours right after your day if the calendar allows. We reply within 2 business days.
