Mixing

Turn multitracks into a coherent mix that translates on headphones, car speakers and club systems — with structured feedback and clear delivery terms.

Mix engineer at console with monitors and muted screen glow.

A mix decides whether a song breathes or feels flat. At Milepostvivo in Amsterdam we do not slap the same preset chain on every genre: we listen to your demo, references and the role of each element before touching faders. The mix room shares acoustic treatment with our tracking spaces so decisions made during recording still make sense in balance.

You can send stems from a home studio, bring files after vocal recording or a band session here, or finish the entire project in-room with an engineer beside you. Either way we keep your next step in mind: streaming, vinyl, video or live playback.

Process

  1. Intake

Send a short brief, references and files. Within 2 business days we confirm format, price and schedule via contact.

  2. Technical check

We verify sample rate, headroom, naming and sync. Missing information is cleared before billable mix time starts.

  3. Mix pass

Balance, EQ, dynamics, space and edits. You receive a mixdown to judge on your own monitors and earbuds.

  4. Revisions and export

Up to 2 revision rounds from concrete notes. Then we deliver the final mix and optional stems for mastering.

Who this mixing service is for

Producers who want a second pair of ears, bands that tracked live and need drums, bass and guitars to sit together, podcasters balancing music and speech: our desk handles pop, rock, hip-hop, electronic and singer-songwriter material. We mix singles, EPs and album tracks; larger projects get a prioritized track list and milestones.

Already happy with a rough mix? We can focus on masking issues, mono compatibility or vocals that fail to sit forward instead of rebuilding from scratch. Prefer a full takeover with documented choices so the next songs share the same signature? We import your session and work methodically in a treated room every day.

Offline mix versus in-studio hours

The most booked option is offline mixing per track at €195 including 21% VAT. You upload stemmed WAV files; we mix asynchronously and return a preview. That suits artists outside Amsterdam or tight release calendars when you do not need to attend.

To listen on our monitors, run A/B tests and discuss arrangement ideas in real time, book studio time at €79 per hour. You sit with the engineer at nearfields and we adjust on the console and in the DAW immediately. Revision rules are the same; only scheduling differs.

Files and stem delivery

Consistent delivery saves time and avoids invoice surprises. Default is 24-bit WAV at 48 kHz; other rates are fine if the whole session matches. Export every track from the same start point (bar 1, sample 0) without master-bus processing on stems unless that processing is intentional — say so in your notes.

Name stems clearly: Kick, Snare_Top, Bass_DI, Vox_Lead, and so on. Include a rough mix plus two references where you admire balance and space, not necessarily genre. Our guide stems and formats for mixing covers DAW exports, tempo and key metadata, and how we handle click tracks or tempo changes.

What happens in a mix pass

We start with gain staging and phase: doubled guitars, layered vocals and parallel compression find a place without bloating the bass. Spectral balance comes next — not every track needs full-range energy. Drums and bass anchor the foundation; keys and pads fill gaps without covering the lead vocal.

Dynamics follow genre: an intimate ballad keeps breathing levels while an uptempo track needs punch and consistent perceived loudness without sounding mastered yet. Effects sit on sends where possible so revisions stay fast. Edits, fades and arrangement fixes stay inside mixing as long as they do not require new recordings.

Revisions, feedback and limits

Each track includes 2 revision rounds after the first mixdown. Rounds work best with timestamps or bar numbers: “vocals slightly brighter in chorus”, “less boom around 80 Hz on bass”, “drier drums in verse 2”. Vague wishes like “more vibe” are better discussed on 020 244 8619 or during booked hours so we can aim precisely.

New recordings, extra stems not in the original delivery, or arrangement changes after approval are quoted separately. Heavy vocal tuning, time-consuming editing or sound design from scratch sits outside a standard mix; we say that upfront. Billing and cancellation details live in terms and conditions and FAQ.

Delivery, formats and archive

You receive a stereo mixdown as 24-bit WAV plus an MP3 preview for quick sharing. On request we also deliver instrumentals, TV mixes (no lead vocal) or stem bounces — mention that at intake. Files go through a secure download link; large projects can land on your SSD at the studio.

We keep mix projects 24 months on our servers, then delete unless you extend storage. Back up locally. For mastering here, the mix engineer receives a file without a limiter on the mix bus and headroom as described in our mastering intake.

Turnaround and booking

A single track with complete stems is usually scheduled within five to ten business days after confirmed delivery, depending on load and complexity. EPs run in batches so later songs inherit decisions from the first. Rush may be possible for a surcharge when the calendar allows — ask via [email protected] or 020 244 8619.

Mix hours book inside Mon–Fri 10–22, Sat 10–18. Half a day often covers one song’s finetuning; a full day suits multiple tracks or album sprints. Booking requires a 30% deposit; balance before final files unless we agree 14-day B2B terms.

What the mix fee does not cover

Mastering, new recordings in our booths, extensive tuning, sample clearance, distribution and video editing are separate. Repairing corrupt files or syncing material without timecode can add time; we flag that before continuing.

Material from other studios remains yours and the original producer’s; we use files only for your project. Privacy and retention are explained in the privacy policy. Combine mixing with other services in one contact request so sessions line up.

Frequently asked questions

How many stems can I send?

There is no hard cap, but far beyond roughly sixty tracks needs extra time. Group DIs and amps, doubles and percussion layers logically; see stems and formats for mixing.

Can I use my own plugins?

Offline mixes run in our DAW with our toolchain. If a specific preset matters, export a processed stem or book in-studio hours to work on the session together.

Do you mix Dolby Atmos or surround?

Standard delivery is stereo. Spatial formats are discussed case by case; we often refer to specialised partners when it falls outside our room.

My rough mix is almost done — can you help?

Send it along. We can run a focused rescue on problem frequencies, dynamics and space, billed as agreed hours or a reduced track fee after review.

How do I start a project?

Use contact with track count, target date and a link to stems or a description. We reply within 2 business days with price and steps.
